SCANDINAVIAN APARTMENT INTERIOR DESIGN IN NUEVA ANDALUCÍA

This 160 m², three-bedroom ground-floor apartment in Nueva Andalucía, Marbella, was completely reconfigured by Tania Tsygel Marbella Interior Design studio to create a more open, functional and connected home.

The original layout was transformed through a full spatial redesign, with the living and dining areas brought together into a generous open-plan space. This change established a stronger relationship between the main living functions, improved the flow of natural light and created a more spacious sense of volume within the apartment.

The interior was then developed around a warm interpretation of Scandinavian design, combining natural materials, soft neutral tones and carefully selected bespoke furnishings. Rather than applying a predefined style, our studio used the Scandinavian aesthetic as a framework for creating a practical and individual home suited to contemporary Mediterranean living.

SCANDINAVIAN SIMPLICITY WITH A WARMER CHARACTER

The redesign was not limited to changing the furnishings; the entire interior was reconsidered as a connected sequence of spaces. The Scandinavian aesthetic provided a framework of simplicity, natural materials and visual lightness, but it was interpreted through a warmer Mediterranean sensibility.

Soft beige and light grey tones create continuity throughout the apartment, while natural wood, textured textiles and carefully selected decorative elements introduce warmth and depth. The restrained palette also helps the newly created open-plan living area feel spacious without becoming impersonal.

Rather than pursuing strict Scandinavian minimalism, we balanced clean lines with comfortable proportions and tactile details, creating an interior that feels contemporary, relaxed and practical for everyday living.

OPEN-PLAN LIVING & DINING — REDEFINING THE LAYOUT

The transformation of the main living area was one of the central elements of the project. By removing the original separation between the living and dining areas, we created a single open-plan space with a clearer visual connection between its different functions.

The new layout was carefully organised to define the living and dining areas without introducing physical barriers. Furniture placement, proportions and sightlines were used to establish distinct zones while maintaining a continuous flow throughout the space.

This reconfiguration changed not only the appearance of the apartment but also the way it could be experienced and used. The enlarged central space became the social heart of the home, with natural light, circulation and everyday activities brought together within one coherent composition.

MASTER BEDROOM — CALM, FUNCTIONAL DETAIL

The master bedroom continues the apartment’s warm Scandinavian character through a restrained palette and carefully considered furniture. The upholstered bed and layered textiles create a soft focal point, while natural wood introduces warmth against the neutral background.

A custom-designed wooden unit combines a vanity and work desk, providing two functions within a compact composition. Built-in wardrobes were integrated into the room to maximise storage while maintaining the clean visual language established throughout the apartment.

Soft ambient lighting and tactile materials complete the space, creating a private bedroom that balances everyday functionality with the calm, understated character of the overall interior.

PRIVATE TERRACE — EXTENDING THE LIVING SPACE OUTDOORS

The private terrace was designed as a natural continuation of the newly reconfigured interior. Rather than treating it as a separate outdoor area, we maintained the same sense of simplicity, comfort and visual continuity established inside the apartment.

A dedicated dining area and a relaxed outdoor lounge create distinct settings for everyday use and entertaining. Natural materials, greenery and soft textiles reinforce the warm character of the interior while responding to the Mediterranean climate.

The terrace therefore becomes an additional living environment — extending the apartment beyond its walls and allowing the open-plan concept to continue into the outdoors.

FUNCTIONALITY, LIGHT & EVERYDAY COMFORT

The completed redesign gave the apartment a clearer spatial structure while preserving the light and informal character that defined the brief. The new open-plan living and dining area became the centre of the home, with the surrounding spaces organised to support a more natural flow between them.

Throughout the apartment, functionality was integrated into the design rather than treated as an afterthought. Bespoke furniture, built-in storage and carefully scaled pieces allow the 160 m² home to feel comfortable and uncluttered, while the warm Scandinavian palette provides visual continuity.

The result is a contemporary apartment that combines the simplicity of Scandinavian design with the relaxed character of Mediterranean living — demonstrating how a thoughtful reconfiguration can fundamentally change the experience of an existing space.
